Wensleydale to make Welcome to Yorkshire’s Chelsea garden cream of the crop

Welcome to Yorkshire is delighted to announce that they are teaming up with the multi award-winning Wensleydale Creamery for this year’s RHS Chelsea garden.

The Creamery is based in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, which is the inspiration for this year’s show garden. The aim of the garden is to showcase the county to the world and encourage people to visit the area to see its beauty first hand.

As well as a stunning Dales landscape and traditional cottage garden, this year’s design by Mark Gregory features a stone bothy converted into a craftsman’s creamery where genuine artisan cheese production will take place.

The Creamery will be supplying genuine Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese-making artefacts to help bring this part of the garden authentically to life. Yorkshire Wensleydale is the only Wensleydale cheese that is actually made in Wensleydale.

Its history dates back to 1150 and its unique modern-day taste is down to the skills passed down through generations of master cheese-makers and the top-quality cows’ milk from over 40 local farms.

These farms are non-intensive, and the cows graze on fields with considerable biodiversity; the milk has a distinctive flavour due to the geology, flora and protected environmental status of the area.

Other authentic elements in the garden will be the dry-stone walls which will be crafted from genuine Yorkshire stone on loan from the Bolton Estate which will be returned there after the show.

A brand-new artist’s impression of the garden has now been released.
