Wallace & Gromit’s love of Wensleydale Cheese goes back nearly 30 years. Since then, the loveable inventor Wallace and his genius dog Gromit have become synonymous with our cheese, connecting both old and new fans to our creamy, crumbly Yorkshire Wensleydale.

It all began on Christmas Eve in 1995, when we received a cryptic postcard from Vernon Sproxton, father of Aardman's co-founder, David Sproxton. The postcard urged us to keep our eyes peeled for the film, 'A Close Shave' airing on BBC2 on Christmas Eve, which is when we first saw Wallace declaring his love for Yorkshire Wensleydale. It was the distinct northern-ness and unique name, said to be the most interesting to animate, that drew creator Nick Park to Yorkshire Wensleydale, and it has been a favourite of Wallace's ever since. We're incredibly proud that Wallace & Gromit chose to share their fondness of our much-loved cheese on the Christmas Eve episode nearly 30 years ago.

To celebrate the release of the new film this Christmas, we're excited to expand our range and celebrate the friendship between Yorkshire Wensleydale and Wallace & Gromit...

In 2023 we were delighted to become the permanent home to a handful of Aardman's famous characters, but this time made from wool rather than clay. Created by the Hawes Yarnbombers, a group of six friends brought together by their love of knitting and crocheting, the life-sized figures took seven months to create and were made using more than 15kg of yarn!

Take some of the magic home!
