Visiting Us – What you need to know

Hello & welcome,

Unfortunately, our Visitor Centre will be closed from 4pm on 4th November 2020 in line with new government guidelines.  In the meantime, if you wish to visit, please understand that this may not be the usual Wensleydale Creamery experience that you are used to.  However, be assured that we are working extremely hard to ensure that when you visit us, you can do so in a way that is safe for you and our staff.

We’re open Monday – Sunday 9.30am – 4pm

  • Cheese and Gift Shop
  • Calvert’s Restaurant (with breakfast, lunch, light bites, coffee and cake)
  • 1897 Coffee Shop – Closed during the Autumn/Winter months from 5th October 2020
  • Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese Experience with Cheese-Making Viewing Gallery (Please note Demonstration Room closed)

Here are some of the measures we are taking to ensure that you can enjoy your time with us in a safe way:

  • Increased cleaning will continue to take place throughout the Visitor Centre
  • Hand sanitiser is available at the entrance and exits and throughout the site
  • We can only accept contactless and card payments
  • We are currently unable to offer takeaway food and drink.
  • Face coverings are required in all parts of our Visitor Centre in line with current government guidelines unless dining and seated at a table in Calvert’s Restaurant.
  • Visitors are reminded to follow government guidance regarding households and support bubbles when visiting us. If you are travelling from a Tier 2 area you may only dine in our restaurant with members of your own household.  Residents in Tier 3 areas are advised against travelling out of their area.

Gift Shop

  • One-way system around the shop, which is indicated by roping and floor markings
  • Please respect 2m distancing indicated by the floor markings and signage
  • We have reduced the number of our colleagues working in the shop, and will be limiting the number of customers in the shop at any one time
  • Please be prepared to queue outside at 2m distancing to enable us to manage safe numbers inside the shop
  • We have introduced screens at the till points and created a system to checkout with reduced contact
  • We are kindly asking customers not to handle produce and merchandise unless making a purchase
  • Visitors to our Gift Shop are required to wear a face-covering

Cheese Shop

  • The Cheese Shop will be fully stocked with our range of artisan cheese & deli food accompaniments
  • Please follow the one-way system through the Gift Shop to the Cheese Shop, using the normal entrance and exit doors
  • Maximum 6 customers allowed in the Cheese Shop at one time
  • We are unable to offer samples
  • There will be sanitising points upon entry and at various points throughout the shop
  • We are kindly asking customers to refrain from handling produce unless making a purchase
  • Visitors to our Gift Shop are required to wear a face-covering

Calvert’s Restaurant

  • New Autumn/Winter menus, with breakfast, lunch, light bites, coffee and cake
  • Entrance and exit via the garden door only (with outdoor 2m queuing if required)
  • We have reduced the number of tables to increase distance spacing
  • Table reservation between 12-2pm only. We welcome booking via phone 01969 667664, ext 3 or email or enquire in the Gift Shop
  • Maximum 6 guests per party
  • Dedicated waitress for tables, with full service from order to pay at the table
  • Face coverings are required unless dining and seated at a table

 Coffee Shop

Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese Experience

  • Please purchase tickets from our Gift Shop from Monday 5th October
  • We are restricting numbers entering the Experience to ensure safe distancing
  • Unfortunately, our Demonstration Area is closed
  • Children’s interactive games will be closed
  • Self-guided tour and we ask guests to respect social distancing throughout the Experience
  • To reflect the above measures, we have reduced admission to £1 (adult) and under 12’s free
  • Please use the additional sanitisation points at touch screens
  • Face coverings are required
