Award-winning cheese-makers, The Wensleydale Creamery, based at Hawes in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, has launched a new blue cheese, adding to its artisan cheese portfolio.
The new cheese, Blue 16, a ‘modern-day blue cheese’ has been developed to appeal to blue cheese lovers looking for variety, combining traditional flavours with a modern twist.
Crafted and perfected during 2016, Blue 16 marks a significant milestone year for The Wensleydale Creamery in which its new dairy development at Hawes was completed.
An eye catching russet colour, Blue 16 is full of character. The creamy, velvety texture of the cheese leads you through to sweet caramel notes and a nutty, savoury flavour. It will join award-winning Wensleydale Blue; a delicately flavoured creamy blue cheese, that has a beautifully mellow, yet full flavour which appeals to both newcomers to blue cheese and connoisseurs alike, in The Wensleydale Creamery’s blue cheese range.
Sandra Bell, Marketing Manager for The Wensleydale Creamery, explains; “Blue cheese is synonymous with Christmas and during the festive season we see a huge rise in demand for our popular Wensleydale Blue, selling around double the volume versus a normal month. Christmas is an ideal time for customers looking to explore the varieties of blue cheese on the market and made it an ideal time for us to introduce Blue 16.”

The Wensleydale Creamery is widely recognised for its range of award-winning cheeses, having received almost 400 awards in the past decade. It’s Wensleydale Blue cheese, has picked up a number of notable accolades, including a Super Gold at the World Cheese Awards last year and Supreme Champion at the British Cheese Awards 2012.
