Frequently asked questions


We deliver within the mainland UK only, to ensure that our cheese arrives in the best possible condition. There are some areas that we are unable to deliver to, please see list here.
We send our cheese out via Royal Mail and Parcelforce.
Please refrigerate your cheese upon receipt. For hampers, you could remove the cheese and refrigerate this separately – to save space in the fridge!
Orders with a total weight below 2kg are sent via Royal Mail, which cannot be tracked. For orders weighing 2kg and over, we use Parcelforce and will provide you with a tracking number with your dispatch confirmation.
When ordering for Christmas gifts and cheese, please select our Christmas Delivery Service - that way, you'll be sure to receive Christmas dated cheese! When ordering Cheese Boxes, select Christmas Delivery Service to guarantee best before dates for 25th December. Cheese Boxes will be dispatched on 18th December.

We are unable to guarantee this, however if your order is sent via Parcelforce then you will be able to determine the delivery date using the tracking code supplied in your dispatch confirmation email.
Delivery is charged per delivery address, and is £4.95. Orders over £75 qualify for free delivery.
We aim to dispatch all orders within three to five working days. When ordering for Christmas gifts and cheese, if choosing 'Christmas Delivery Service' at the checkout, orders will be dispatched from 11th December or 18th December for Cheese Boxes.

We handcraft a variety of cheeses in different sizes, which can form the tiers of a wedding or celebration cake. We supply the cheeses direct to you, for you to decorate/assemble as you wish. We are on hand to advise how best to select these – please pop in to our Visitor Centre Cheese Shop and speak to a member of the team, call 01969 667664 or email us. You will also find locally made rich fruit cake in our Visitor Centre Cheese Shop and via our mail order service, which can form part or all of a cake. This is supplied as plain cake for you to decorate.
You can buy a wide range of our handcrafted cheese on our website. Our cheese, yogurts and butter are available from the major retailers, farm shops, delis and independent retailers. For more information, visit our where to Buy page.

This is dependent upon the type of cheese, and the way it is packaged. All of our cheese is clearly labelled with instructions for storing, and a best before date. For specific information please contact us.

Unfortunately not! Wensleydale cheese can be and is made in counties around the UK. Only Yorkshire Wensleydale, which is protected with European protected food name status, is handcrafted in Wensleydale. To be sure that you are buying the “real thing”, look out for Yorkshire Wensleydale – this also applies to the cheese that we blend with ingredients, for example Yorkshire Wensleydale & Cranberries.
We would advise booking a table in Calvert’s Restaurant if you would like to dine with us, especially on Sundays and during busy times such as school holidays. Simply call us on 01969 667664 or email to make your reservation.
We are open seven days a week throughout the year. See our opening hours on our website.
We only allow assistance dogs within our Visitor Centre. Dogs are welcome in the external areas of our site, and we are happy to provide water for them in our Coffee Shop garden. We do request that dogs are not left unattended in vehicles, for their own wellbeing.
Our Visitor Centre is fully accessible, and we also have designated disabled parking. If you require specific assistance please contact us ahead of your visit and we will be delighted to help.
We have ample parking on site at our Visitor Centre, which is free of charge.
We don’t require bookings for our Visitor Centre, with the exception of larger groups. We welcome coaches and groups by prior arrangement, and offer a range of tailored packages. Visitors are welcome to use our facilities freely during their time here, though we advise reserving your place on a cheese-making demonstration on arrival on days that these are available, to avoid disappointment! It is also advisable to reserve a table in Calvert’s Restaurant ahead of your visit, if you wish to dine with us.
