Maintenance Engineer

Working as part of a ‘close knit’ engineering team, the Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance of Site equipment and infrastructure (excluding refrigeration) for the Kirkby Malzeard additive cheese processing site.  This will cover the maintenance of equipment and high-speed processing and packaging lines, to ensure that the site production facilities and equipment are able to function with optimum efficiency and effectiveness.

The role will also cover, as and when required, project engineering for the build, installation and commissioning of new processing and production lines.

As well as mechanical maintenance of all processing lines, this role will have a particular emphasis on maintenance relating to motors, drives, electrical panelling and PLC control units.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • The maintenance of additive cheese processing equipment and machinery, including processing, blending, packing & flow wrapping, and;
  • Machine change-overs- Supra, Ulma, Wax Lines, Metal Detectors & Check Weighers, setting up equipment, calibrating check-weighers, adjustments to metal detectors and thermoformers etc
  • The maintenance of site infrastructure, where appropriate.
  • Boiler house routine checks
  • Planned Preventative Maintenance routines.
  • Project engineering, installations and commissioning of new and second hand equipment.
  • On-call duties as part of a rota system.
  • Ad hoc site engineering support.

Candidate Profile

Academic Skill Base

The Candidate should ideally possess any of the following qualifications:

Apprentice Time Served Mechanical & Maintenance Engineering Qualifications – City & Guilds

ONC or HNC in Mechanical & Maintenance Engineering, or maintenance & Electrical Engineering

NVQ Level 3 in Engineering Maintenance

C&G 17th Edition

Practical Skill Base

The Candidate will be a skilled and experienced individual possessing a sound base of experience of Mechanical and Maintenance Engineering, ideally gained in a manufacturing or processing environment.

The candidate should have an electrical knowledge or have experience of electrical engineering maintenance (with exposure to PLC use on processing and packing machinery).

Experience of working in food processing (and chilled food) would be beneficial, but is not essential.

Personal Attributes

The Candidate should possess a high degree of self motivation and a ‘can do’ attitude to their work.

They should be able to work as part of a ‘close knit’ engineering team, as well as being able to work independently.

They should possess strong problem-solving abilities and be able to demonstrate initiative.

They should possess a flexible approach to their work and take pride in the delivery of a first-class engineering support service to the Business.

Please note this vacancy is based at our Additive Cheese Processing site in Kirkby Malzeard, North Yorkshire.

Salary circa £29k – Closing Date 22nd March 2019.
