Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese

Not all cheeses bearing the Wensleydale name are actually produced in Wensleydale.

In fact, many Wensleydale cheeses currently available are made in Lancashire, Cheshire, and even as far as Shropshire and counties in the south of England!

Be sure to look out for Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese to be assured you are buying the authentic product, traditionally handcrafted with integrity in Wensleyale in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.

Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese is protected with European Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status.

Wensleydale cheese can be made anywhere. Only Yorkshire Wensleydale is handcrafted by our skilled cheese-makers to a time-honoured recipe in the designated area of Wensleydale, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, using milk from local farms, and our own unique cheese-making starter cultures. Creamy, crumbly & full of flavour that cannot be matched.

To be classified as a protected food and awarded Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), a product must be produced, processed or prepared within a specific geographical area and bear qualities, features or a reputation that is attributed only to that region.
