Wensleydale Preserves Wins Major Contract With Wensleydale Creamery

Wensleydale Preserves, makers of jams, chutneys, pickles, jellies and marmalades in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, has struck a very successful deal with the Wensleydale Creamery Visitor Centre.

The Wensleydale Creamery based in Hawes uses traditional methods to handcraft its cheeses, including the famous Real Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese. It stocks a wide range of its own products, and those of local suppliers, in its Visitor Centre.

Wensleydale Preserves began supplying a selection of jams and chutneys to the Creamery in April.  The full range of chutneys, pickles, jellies, marmalades and jams, including the unusual Banana jam, are available online at wensleydalepreserves@hotmail.co.uk.

The jars have been flying off the shelves at the Creamery Visitor Centre after only two deliveries. Wensleydale Preserves expects to supply around 400 jars to the Visitor Centre each month.

Wensleydale Preserves was launched in February this year and already holds supplier contracts with the Wensleydale Heifer, providing jam for the hotel’s breakfasts, the Fat Sheep in Reeth and the local shop in West Witton.

The Creamery’s Visitor Centre is one of the largest tourist attractions in the Yorkshire Dales with more than 200,000 people a year coming through its doors. It recently underwent a £800,000 makeover which is expected to attract an extra 50,000 visitors a year and help strengthen the sustainability of the Dales as a tourist destination.

The Creamery is an integral part of the farming community in Wensleydale and the Dales through its milk purchases from nearly 50 local farms and the stocking of a number of local products in its Visitor Centre. It further contributes to the local economy through wages and purchases.

Claire Wilson, founder of Wensleydale Preserves, said: “We are delighted to have won our biggest contract yet with the Wensleydale Creamery and that Wensleydale Preserves are on sale in the Visitor Centre there. My aim is to expand the business first in the Dale, and then beyond it. The Wensleydale Creamery is a household name and I would love to emulate its success.”

Richard Whorton, Manager of The Wensleydale Creamery Visitor Centre, said: “We are always looking for ways to enhance the Visitor Centre and to support the local economy. We are proud to have jams and chutneys from Wensleydale Preserves on our shelves, supporting a new local business and offering our visitors even more delicious Dales’ products.”
