Chris Evans Reveals His Love Of Real Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese

Mar 08, 2010

Celebrity endorsements have been flooding in thick and fast for Real Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese. The latest famous fan of the only Wensleydale actually made in Wensleydale has emerged as Radio Two presenter Chris Evans.

Chris’s love for the cheese, made at The Wensleydale Creamery in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, was broadcast to millions of listeners across the country.

His support for Real Yorkshire Wensleydale was sparked by Wensleydale being an answer to a crossword puzzle. Chris said: “I went to The Wensleydale factory once and it was great – it was a great day out.”

He commended the visitor centre saying: “you should see the shop!” at The Wensleydale Creamery, adding: “Who wouldn’t want to spend a day just in there?”

Chris also extolled the Real Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese-based dishes served at The Creamery’s restaurant as “just the best ever”.

His endorsement follows on from cricketing star, Strictly Come Dancing winner and proud Yorkshireman Darren Gough and leading politician William Hague.

David Hartley, The Wensleydale Creamery’s Managing Director, said: “Our phones were red hot with farmers and friends calling us about Real Yorkshire Wensleydale being mentioned by Chris Evans.

“Our staff at Hawes and Kirby Malzeard were thrilled to hear such a ringing endorsement of Real Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese, our cheese-making tour, visitor centre and cheese and souvenir shop on national radio by leading celebrity.”

Darren Gough, who launched a nationwide campaign to demonstrate the provenance of Real Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese, said: “As a proud Yorkshireman, I strongly believe we should be shouting loud and clear about the quality and provenance of Real Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese and the fact that it is the only Wensleydale cheese that is actually made in Wensleydale.”

William Hague, MP, the Shadow Foreign Secretary and MP for the area where The Wensleydale Creamery is based, took part in an event in London to highlight the economic benefits of the rural economy to the UK.

He said: “The Wensleydale Creamery is a splendid example of a local company with a national reach and growing international recognition and I am certain that Wensleydale made by The Wensleydale Creamery will continue to present the very best of North Yorkshire to discerning consumers in this country and, indeed, beyond.”

He added: ““It is a champion in supporting rural livelihoods through its use of local farms to supply its milk, which is vital to sustaining the surrounding agricultural community.”
