A Fresh Outlook For Creamery Visitors

May 23, 2011

The Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes has brought the outside inside with the installation of an innovative grass effect ‘Quickturf’ carpet in part of its new look Visitor Centre.

A Fresh Outlook For Creamery Visitors

Visitors will be able to walk on the grass-like carpet along the cheese-making viewing gallery to witness Real Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese being handcrafted to a time-honoured recipe.

The look and feel of the room reflects the countryside and the Dales pastures and brings the flora, fauna and wildlife of the area to life with beautifully designed pictures and graphics.

The installation of ‘Quickturf’ is the one of the final parts of the Creamery’s £800,000 investment in its Visitor Centre. The Newark-based company which was awarded the contract is a leading UK supplier and installer of artificial grass, more usually for outdoor areas.

The new-look visitor centre has already attracted considerable attention with visitor numbers up 20% in April 2011 compared to the same time last year.

David Hartley, The Creamery’s Managing Director, said: “The improvements to the viewing gallery mark the final stages of the overall refurbishment of the Creamery’s visitor centre. “We are situated in one of the most beautiful and scenic parts of the country and we wanted to create a really natural environment in the viewing gallery reflecting this.

“The installation of the grass carpet has helped us to achieve our aim and the overall impression is very natural, which we believe enhances the experience of our visitors.” Garry Martin, Director of Quickturf, said: “It is quite unusual for us to install one of the Quickturf range indoors, but once it was laid the turf carpet looked fantastic and fitted perfectly with the outdoorsy feel that has been created.”
